On September 28, 2023 Walter Charles Dabulewicz of Moravia, NY left us after years of dealing with lung and heart disease.
He was born to John and Audrey (Seymour) Dabulewicz on May 3, 1952, in Oneonta New York, the 3rd of 5 children. Raised on the farm in Otego, and injuring his feet at a young age, he realized he needed a desk job. After graduating from Unatego High School in 1970, he set off for the city of Syracuse, where he graduated from CCBI with a degree in Business Administration in 1972. At CCBI, he met Cherene Stevens, his first wife and mother of Michael and Jessica. While attending college, Walter worked at Marine Midland Bank. After college he started at Prudential, selling life insurance. In 1976, he and his brother-in-law and business partner Don Stevens bought the Kilborne Insurance Agency in Moravia. At the time, he was a mere 23 Years old. He continued to work at the agency until February 2023. In 1982, he met Joanne Hargett, and in 1985 they were married. In 1990, his third child, Natale was born. Walter was large and in charge. He bought and improved many properties in the village of Moravia. He was a volunteer fireman, was treasurer for the Indian Mound Cemetery, Senior Citizen’s Housing board, and the Masonic lodge. He was a 50-year Masonic member. He was the Treasurer for the MFD-VFW Fair and the Fillmore Car show for many years. He was a mentor and friend to many, and was always ready with a clever one-liner to make us laugh. He always had time to listen and give credible advice. He worked hard at being a supportive Dad, businessman, boss, Grand Dad, and husband.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Paul, brother-in-law Frank Thornton , sisters-in-law Flo Dabulewicz and Ellen Hargett. He is survived by his wife Joanne, brothers Jack and Peter (Linda) Dabulewicz, sister Sandra (Tom) Normile, mother-in-law Betsy Hargett, sisters-in-law Esther Thornton, Nancy Hargett (TomRieks) , Marsha (Willie) Durbin, brothers-in-law Darrell (Jan) Hargett, Paul (Linda) Hargett, Lee Hargett, son Michael (Meghan) Dabulewicz, daughter Jessica (Fritz) Hess, daughter Natale (Jacob) Randolph, grandchildren Andrew, Parker and Marley Dabulewicz, Will, Kendall and Sienna Hess, cousins Nancy (Gary) Behrns and Helen (Willie) Compton along with, many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life/Visitation will be held Tuesday October 3, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Moravia VFW Post 7127.Burial will be at the convenience of the family Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery in Otego, New York. A scholarship will be established in his name in the Moravia Central School for a graduating student entering a business program.
