Sarah Joan Knapp, 90 of Moravia and a former resident of Groton passed away Sunday December 10, 2023 after a brief illness.
Sarah was born in Auburn, NY a daughter of Richard Speed & Lois Dwello.
She had been employed at Smith-Corona Typewriter in Groton & Cortland for 32 years before her retirement.
She is survived by children Fay Bilynsky, Jody Ennis and Daughter-in-Law Susan Knapp; grandchildren Chris Bilynsky, Gretchen (Chris) Dunfey, Tammy (Justin) Gentilcore, George (Alyssa) Knapp III and Benjamin (Danielle) Knapp; great grandchildren Nikki Bilynsky, Jack and Sean Dunfey, Magnolia and Aurora Knapp and Jordan Gentilcore.
We would like to extend a special recognition to her nurse- Anna who was so caring. Mom just loved her.
Sarah’s Biggest Love was spending time with her family (family BBQs, Holidays, Birthdays, and any other important family events).
She enjoyed going to yard sales, going for rides in the car, seeing the Christmas lights, sewing, canning with her granddaughter, cooking (even the shitty peppers), Western movies and KFC.
She truly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, they all held a special place in her heart and she was so proud of all our accomplishments. She was a wonderful mom (Best Mom Ever).
She had little but gave much. She was like the woman in the Bible (Mark 12:42-44) “But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” She was the most generous person I have ever known. She was always helping people with food, money, and anything else they may have been in need of. She made it a point to make sure that things were done fairly and stuck up for people that couldn’t stick up for themselves. She taught her family what true values are.
She is a hero to all of us and will be truly missed. We are all thankful for the time we had with her. She was a true blessing to us and anyone who came in contact with her. A true angel on earth.
She is predeceased by her husband George Knapp Sr., mother Lois Dwello, father Richard Speed, son George Knapp Jr., Son-in-Laws John Bilynsky and Jim Ennis and 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held ?:00 pm Sunday December 17, 2023 at the Wade Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Moravia. Spring burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Union Springs, NY.
Calling hours will be held from 1:00-3:00 Sunday at the funeral home.
