Marjory Wade Obituary

Marjory Dorothy Wade, 89 of Moravia, passed away Monday February 26, 2024 at Northwoods Rehabilitation & Nursing Center after a long battle with Aphasia three days after celebrating her 89th birthday. She was the daughter of Gladys Storck (Douglass) and Edward Douglass. Marge graduated from Cortland High School in 1953 and set down roots in Moravia after meeting and marrying the love of her life, Marshall Wade. Together they raised four children.

Marge worked at Crescent Corset Co. in Moravia and went on to a long career with Moravia National Bank where she would retire.

Marge loved time with family and relished every birthday celebration and holiday gatherings at her home. She loved to bake and would gift her famous homemade bread and rolls to family and friends. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Time spent with them were many of her happiest moments. One of her last outings was a surprise trip to her great granddaughter’s dance recital.

Marge was an accomplished seamstress. From making Barbie clothes for her girls growing up to large stuffed animals, and clothes for her children. All of which she did on an old Singer treadle sewing machine. She was well known in the community for providing mending services for anyone in need. From zipper replacement (a specialty) to hemming or alterations. Marge made many a Raggedy Ann and Andy for family and friends expecting their child. Anyone gifted with these knew what a precious heartfelt gift they were receiving.

Although she grew up in the Episcopalian faith, Marge found true happiness in her Baptist faith and thrived among her many wonderful church family members at the Sempronius Baptist Church. From teaching Sunday school to acting as treasurer, Marge was a very dedicated member, admired, loved and appreciated. Her partner in crime, Dorothy and her chauffer and friend Shirley will miss her deeply.

Marge had a zest for life; never an unkind word; she loved to laugh and did so often. She truly loved and enjoyed spending time with family, and would do anything for them.

Many in the community remember the countless miles she logged walking. Either by herself or walking hand in hand with her husband Marshall. She loved to be outside and spend countless hours doing yard work.

A very special thanks goes out to the many angels working at Northwoods Rehabilitation & Nursing Center; especially Lynn Kratzer. The care provided during Marge’s last days was exemplary to say the least. Marge was loved and cared for around the clock. She passed on with dignity and grace.

Carrying on her legacy are her children, Diane Wade, Marshall (Kathy) Wade Jr., Rochelle (Walt) Hubbs, Julie (Chris) Fulton. 12 Grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty (Art) Durbin, Joyce (Frank) Garfield, Harvey (Joyce) Douglass and several nieces & nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years Marshall Wade Sr. in 2014, her parents, Gladys & Edward Douglass, her sister Joan Douglass Morehouse, and her Grandson Daniel Wade.

Calling hours will be held from 1:00pm – 2:30pm, Saturday March 16, 2024 at the Sempronius Baptist Church with a celebration of life following.
